Instructions for Authors

※  Submission Format

All submissions must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document (.doc) file using the MedInfo2017 template provided.Please be aware that not using the template and non-adherence to formatting guidelines and page limits will lead to a rejection of your submission without review.

※  Language

The official language for MedInfo2017 is English. All submissions must be in English. Submissions in any other language will be rejected without review. Values should be reported in the International System of Units. Authors are responsible for appropriate grammar, spelling, and punctuation in their submissions. Non-native English speakers may consider employing the services of a professional editor or request review and editing from colleagues.

※ Below are the formatting guidelines for all submissions: 
Full paper

A total of 5 pages in length including references. Papers are descriptions of original research on the use of information methods, systems and technologies to improve quality and safety of care, enhance care outcomes, promote patient-centered care, facilitate translational research, enable precision medicine, and improve education and skills in informatics. Submissions can be in any of the five programme tracks and should align with the theme of the conference. Papers must be organized in the following structure as provided in the template: Abstract (125-150 words), Keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, References, and Address for correspondence.

Vision paper 

A total of 5 pages in length including references. Vision papers are well-thought, well-argued position statements that highlight new challenges and propose potential directions and novel solutions in biomedical and health informatics. Vision papers must contain a general description of the topic in appropriate headings and need not contain or adhere to all of the structured headings provided in the template. Accepted vision papers will be presented as oral presentations at the conference.

Student paper 

A total of 5 pages in length including references. Student papers are descriptions of a student-led research project or development effort with the student being the first author. Student papers typically have the mentor/teacher/guide as senior author and other collaborators/mentors as other authors. Student papers must be organized in the following structure as provided in the template: Abstract (125-150 words), Keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, References, and Address for correspondence.

Poster 

A total of 1 page in length including references. Poster submissions must follow the same structure as regular papers and should contain an Abstract (50-75 words), Keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results, Conclusions, Acknowledgements, References and Address for correspondence; the discussion section may be omitted.


Panel proposal 

A total of 3 pages in length including references (if any). A panel would typically feature 3-5 panelists giving a brief presentation or making a position statement, followed by at least 30 minutes of discussion and active audience interaction and participation. Panelists are usually thought leaders in the relevant field. Proposals must contain a general description of the topic of the proposed panel in appropriate headings and need not contain or adhere to all of the structured headings provided in the template. Brief biographies of the panelists as well as their specific contributions to the panelists must be provided. Panels are part of the main conference programme and are scheduled for 90 minutes.

Workshop proposal 

A total of 3 pages in length including references (if any). A workshop is aimed at engaging the audience and collaborative working around a specific theme. A workshop would typically feature 3-5 organizers. In a workshop, the organizers operate on equal footing with the audience rather than as experts or thought leaders. Workshop proposals must contain a general description of the topic proposed in appropriate headings and need not contain or adhere to all of the structured headings provided in the template. Brief biographies of the workshop organizers as well as their specific contributions to the workshop must be provided Workshops are part of the main conference programme and are scheduled for 90 minutes.

Tutorial proposal 

A total of 3 pages in length including references (if any). Tutorials are educational or teaching sessions that address a specific topic in the field of informatics. Tutorial proposals must contain a general description of the topic proposed in appropriate headings and need not contain or adhere to all of the structured headings provided in the template. Brief biographies of the organizers/lecturers as well as their specific contributions to the tutorial must be provided There may be 3-5 organizers/lecturers for tutorials. Tutorials are organized before the conference (pre-conference) and can be scheduled as either a half day session (3 hours) or full day session (6 hours) with breaks.

 Page Size
All submissions must be formatted to A4 page size as provided in the template.
 Page Layout
All submissions must use the two column format provided in the template.
 Margins
Margins for all submissions are 1 cm (0.3937 inches) on top, bottom, right, and left. The first page must have an additional 2 cm at the top (in addition to the normal 1 cm page margin). The margins on the template must not bemodified.
 Font and Size
The only accepted font style is Times New Roman. Please adhere to the font sizes for various objects as listed in the template
 Line Formatting
All text must be fully justified within the two column format. The column formatting on the template must not bemodified.
 Author Names
Full names of all authors and their affiliations including city, state, and country are to be included in the document as set out in the template. Professional titles and degrees are not to be listed for authors.
 Abstract
An abstract summarizing your work must be included as part of your paper submission. The length of the abstract is 50-75 words for posters and 125-150 words for all papers (full, vision, and student) and proposals (panels, workshops, and tutorials).
 References (Citations)
The format and style for references is IOS Press with citations appearing in the main text in arabic numerals in square brackets such as this [1]. It is recommended that authors use a citation or bibliography manager such EndNote to format their citations.
